November 2009 Southern Sudan has so many significant needs. Village elders were unanimous telling me that education is their highest priority.. Ahead of food, security and health. They understand the route away from dependence and desperation. Time is critically short. So rather than help in capital intensive school construction projects, I feel investing in learning tools and scholarships can provide more immediate benefit. Under the watchful eye of my Rotary club, we have launched three education relief projects inviting your financial assistance. You / your organization can participate at a range of levels. From paying for pencils to sponsoring a scholarship (in full or part), we have a system in place that assures every dollar donated will go to the cause of your choice. 1.School Supplies for Ponborong & Wangulei primary schools. 2. Scholarships for teachers and students of Wangulei and Ponborong schools to study in Nairobi, Kenya. Our first two recipient will be John Deng, teacher and founder of Pongborong school. John taught in the midst of civil war at great peril. He has only a 3rd grade education. Margaret Adhieu Alaak, 20, is a brilliant student and future leader. She was selected to represent her region at an international conference on children's rights. We are arranging studies in Nairobi, Kenya. 3. Sending a Lost Boy Home. Supporting our Lost Boy friend, Thuch Malual Deng who is nearing completion of his four year degree in Public Health at University of Washington. Thuch plans to return to Wangulei, his village of birth. We are immediately searching for FREQUENT FLYER MILES for Thuch's flight to Sudan, via Ethiopia.
