PICS FROM COLORADO

Riding companion for many days, Tony, from Sacramento area.

Our Ordway host, Gillian. She is a prison guard. From New Zealand. She opens her country home to all cross country cyclers, whether she is home or not. Sign on the door advises to just come in, make yourself at home.
Leaving Gillian's

First customer ever, at Garcia's in Orney Springs, CO.

We tamed the mighty Arkansas River thru Royal Gorge, CO

into the mountains..the Rockies. I'll remember the first whiff of pine forests. Reminding me of central washington.

GUFFY , Colorado
To date, the most fascinating stop on our journey. One small village at about 8,500 ft. in the Rockies. Bill is owner of the local garage, antique stores and many hostel type accommodations. they host an annual chicken tossing contest on July 4.
Bill greets us to town with a cold water. Others had received a beer! What gives?

Here's Bill wishing us a heartfelt, safe journey.

Sharon & I stayed in the hogbarn. Only $20/night. With electricity. No indoor plumbing.

The hogbarn was really cozy inside. Only $20 per night.

Our cycling friends got the bunk house. $10 for a little cuby hole, per peson.

One of so many unique things to look at around Bill's empire.

He has large collections of old vehicles, wheelbarrows, bed frames, bathtubs.
A lot of junk...but we loved being there.

On top of a minor pass. Higher passes to follow.

Early breakfast in Fairplay / Southpark, CO. We picked up a new friend going eastbound, Ken, from Gig Harbor, WA

On top of the highest pass on our journey... at 11,542 ft. A chance meeting there with Rod, who joined our group in Breckenridge for breakfast.

Coming down from Hoosier Pass toward the ski resort of Breckenridge.

We didn't stay too long in Breckenridge. Here's a shot of the bike trail that leads to nearby communities of Frisco (our shangrila) and Silverthorne (shopping central with outlet malls, but very pretty setting)

Two new friends we met on the bike trail. Residents of the area.Virgil an ex Seattle/Boeing engineer now lives in Frisco. Karen in Silverthorne. Virgil brought us a great lunch after leading us on a tour of his new home community and then led us thru the maze of bike trails to our outbound town of Silverthorne. He invites us back for a visit.
